Book a direct one-way transfer for your airport arrival, train station pickup, or hotel change. Book two separate point-to-point rides for days spent hiking inside the park. A private day driver is worth hiring when you visit multiple spread-out sights or enter and exit the national park through different gates.
Choose one transfer, a return car or a day driver
For an arrival or hotel switch, book one direct transfer. Your trip has one pickup point and one hotel entrance. This is the easiest choice after a late flight, for a family with large suitcases, or when changing hotels between downtown Zhangjiajie and Wulingyuan. An airport or West Station transfer to Wulingyuan runs about CNY 120–320 (≈ USD 18–48 ≈ USD 18–48) per sedan. You can book a direct station or airport transfer to head straight to your lobby.
For a single mountain attraction, arrange separate outward and return rides. Once inside the park, you spend the day walking, riding cable cars, or taking internal shuttles. A hired car sitting in the parking lot adds no value while you are on mountain trails. Check our national forest park overview to pick your entry gate, and schedule a return ride at that gate for the afternoon.
Hire a full-day driver when connecting multiple spread-out sights. A Wulingyuan hotel, the Grand Canyon glass bridge, and Huanglong Cave make an easy road loop. Booking a car for the entire day avoids waiting for separate taxis with kids or older relatives. A day driver is also ideal when you enter the national park at one gate and finish at another.
If you land in the morning, visit Tianmen Mountain, and sleep in Wulingyuan that night, book a car with that intermediate stop so your luggage stays securely in the vehicle during your mountain visit.
Match passengers and luggage to the vehicle
For one to three travelers with carry-ons or modest bags, a standard sedan works well. Four passengers with four large suitcases should choose an MPV or a 7-seat van to ensure all bags fit in the trunk. Share the exact number of bags, plus any folded stroller or wheelchair, with the arranger before booking.
For six or seven travelers with luggage, compare a larger passenger van against booking two sedans. One van keeps everyone together. Two smaller cars can work if you have different hotel drops, but each requires its own meeting point. Count the driver separately from passenger seat totals.
If traveling with a baby or toddler, request a child car seat in advance and provide your child's age and weight. If you use a wheelchair, let the arranger know whether you can transfer to a vehicle seat and share the folded chair dimensions.
Put the exact start and finish on the request

Zhangjiajie West Railway Station (张家界西站) and Zhangjiajie Railway Station (张家界站) are two separate train stations located miles apart. High-speed trains mostly arrive at West Station. Hehua Airport (张家界荷花国际机场) uses airport code DYG. Check your ticket details carefully, and copy your hotel's full Chinese name and street address into your booking.
Wulingyuan town and the forest park's South Gate serve different hotel clusters. The town's East Gate is 武陵源标志门 (also labeled 吴家峪门票站). The South Gate is 森林公园门票站. Check our forest park entrance guide to confirm the right gate before sending your pickup location.
Allow 40 to 60 minutes to drive between downtown Zhangjiajie and Wulingyuan. From Hehua Airport to Wulingyuan, allow 45 to 60 minutes after leaving the terminal. For departure flights or high-speed trains, calculate your pickup time backward from required station check-in times.
For Tianmen Mountain, confirm your ticket route first. The downtown cableway station and the mountain expressway shuttle use different entry points. Check the Tianmen ticket guide before setting your drop-off spot.
Compare the whole party's transport cost
A local private day driver costs around CNY 400–600 (≈ USD 60–90 ≈ USD 60–90) per sedan per day or CNY 600–900 (≈ USD 90–135 ≈ USD 90–135) per van per day. Longer day trips outside the valley require custom quotes.
Split the total vehicle price across your group. A CNY 600 (≈ USD 90 ≈ USD 90) van shared among four people comes to CNY 150 (≈ USD 22 ≈ USD 22) per person for the day. Compare that against booking two one-way transfers if you plan to stay inside one park all day.
By comparison, the public bus from downtown to Wulingyuan costs CNY 13 (≈ USD 1.9 ≈ USD 1.9) per person one way. Four passengers spend CNY 52 (≈ USD 7.8 ≈ USD 7.8) on bus tickets, plus local taxis at each end. A direct private car saves hauling heavy bags through bus terminals. Our forest park transport guide covers all public transit options.
Make sure your quote covers the vehicle, driver, fuel, highway tolls, and parking fees. Attraction entry tickets and park tour guides are separate expenses.
Choose how much help you want
A private driver handles transportation and luggage between stops. A licensed tour guide enters scenic areas with you, handles ticketing, and leads you along mountain trails. Decide whether you want an independent trip or a guided tour before booking extra services.
Your hotel front desk can arrange a reliable local car. The regional 城景巴士 network also operates point-to-point custom vans through 湘悦行, linking transit hubs, hotels, and scenic areas. For private groups, make sure to book the entire vehicle rather than shared seats.
Practical tips for your pickup
- Provide your local China arrival date and time, flight or train number, exact pickup and drop-off points, passenger count, and suitcase sizes. China uses Beijing Time (UTC+8).
- Keep your driver's phone number and agreed meeting spot handy. At the airport, pick up all checked bags before walking out to the arrivals hall.
- For a day tour, give the driver your list of stops in order. If crossing the national park on foot, clearly specify the morning drop-off gate and afternoon pickup gate.
- Keep your hotel address in Chinese characters on your phone: 请送我到这家酒店。 (Please take me to this hotel).
- Confirm your payment method through your booking platform or hotel desk before departure, and save your digital receipt.
