Zhangjiajie West Station to Hotels: City and Wulingyuan

Stepping off a high-speed train at Zhangjiajie West Station (张家界西站) puts you in the northern outskirts of the city. From here, you have direct options to reach downtown hotels near Tianmen Mountain or resort lodgings out in Wulingyuan. Here is how to find the right bus, coach, taxi, or ride-hail car, and how to plan your return trip.

Choose your hotel area and ride

Bus or car to city hotels

For two people, the public bus costs CNY 4 (≈ USD 0.60 ) in total; for four people, it costs CNY 8 (≈ USD 1.2 ). If you carry multiple large suitcases or arrive late in the evening, a car saves walking with bags between stops. Its quoted price is per vehicle.

Driving takes roughly 20 minutes to reach the lower cable car station for Tianmen Mountain. Set your hotel entrance as the destination and confirm vehicle drop-off access with reception.

Leave the train and find your boarding area

City bus and car pickup areas

Follow the 出口 (Exit) signs from the platform out into the arrival concourse. Inside the station square, covered walkways lead directly to each transport zone:

• 公交车 (City Bus): Walk to 高铁枢纽站, the main bus hub serving West Station. For the Tianmen Mountain area, board Bus 17 bound for the old railway station (火车站). After the bus hub moved in August 2025, Bus 17 no longer calls at 高铁站广场东; Bus 6 still serves that east-square stop.
• 出租车 (Taxi): Follow signs to the official taxi stand and queue for a metered cab.
• 网约车 (Ride-hailing): Follow signs to the designated ride-hailing pickup zone shown in your app.

Coach boarding for Wulingyuan

When you exit the train arrivals hall at Zhangjiajie West, turn right toward the attached coach station. Look for signs pointing to 高铁汽车客运站 or 高铁汽车站 alongside tourist transport symbols. This is where you purchase your ticket and board the direct coach to Wulingyuan.

At the ticket counter, ask for a ticket to 武陵源汽车站 (Wulingyuan Bus Station). You can confirm the destination with staff: 这班车到武陵源汽车站吗？ (Does this bus go to Wulingyuan Bus Station?). Follow staff directions to your departure bay, and keep your ticket or booking code ready. Staff will show you where to place large luggage in the bus hold.

This coach travels straight to Wulingyuan. You do not need to take city buses into downtown Zhangjiajie first. Choose the coach marked 武陵源.

City bus routes to hotel areas

Take bus 17 to the Tianmen hotel area

1. Board Bus 17 at 高铁枢纽站, heading toward 火车站.
2. Get off at 武陵山珍馆站. Onboard announcements may also call this stop 天门山索道 (Tianmen Cableway).
3. Walk about 230 meters east along Dayong Road (大庸路) to reach the lower city cable car station (天门山索道下站).
4. Walk directly to your hotel from there. If your hotel is right beside the old railway station, stay on the bus until the final stop at 火车站.

Bus 4 is another route serving 武陵山珍馆站. At West Station, board at 高铁枢纽站 and select the airport (飞机场) direction in the bus app; Bus 17 goes toward 火车站.

Reach hotels by the old station or in the city centre

For hotels along Guanli Road (官黎路) or near the older railway station (张家界站), ride Bus 6 or Bus 17 all the way to the 火车站 terminal. The city station map point marks this separate older rail hub.

If your hotel is north of the river in the downtown shopping district, compare your hotel address with the stops on Bus 6 and 17. Getting off at the closest downtown stop avoids crossing town twice.

Bus 6 follows temporary roadwork detours starting September 2026. To check live bus positions and stops, open the bus app 掌上公交, select 张家界, and search for line 6 or 17. Select your direction. For Bus 6 from West Station into the city, the detour route stops at 岩塔, 龙城街, and 苏维埃纪念馆 before crossing the river to 烈士公园 and 观音大桥南.

Take a taxi or ride-hail car

Car from West Station to a city hotel

To catch a regular cab, join the official queue under the 出租车 signs. Show the driver your hotel's Chinese name and street address on your phone.

To use a ride-hailing app, set your hotel destination before requesting the car. Select the station pickup point in the app, follow the 网约车 signs to that spot, and verify the license plate before getting in. If your hotel sits in a pedestrian lane, ask the front desk for their nearest vehicle drop-off point.

Car from West Station to Wulingyuan

Taking a direct car saves walking with luggage and works well for late-evening arrivals. The drive from Zhangjiajie West Station to Wulingyuan takes about 30 to 40 minutes.

• Official Taxi: Follow station signs for 出租车 to the taxi stand. Expect to pay about CNY 80 (≈ USD 12 ) per car for a ride from West Station to the East Gate area.
• Ride-Hail Apps: Enter the hotel's Chinese name and address in your app. Check the upfront quote and meet the driver at the app's designated pickup point.
• Pre-Booked Ride: If you travel with family or several large bags, book a direct West Station to Wulingyuan transfer starting from CNY 120 (≈ USD 18 ) per vehicle for a smooth one-seat ride.

For a booked pickup, send the driver 张家界西站, your train number, and your scheduled arrival time.

Choose a daytime coach and its final stop

The direct coach to Wulingyuan Bus Station costs about CNY 13 (≈ USD 1.9 ) per person one way and takes roughly 40 minutes on the road. Add departure waiting time and the final walk or taxi from the terminal to your hotel.

Coach departures run between 07:00 and 17:20, roughly every 40 minutes or when seats fill up. Buy a ticket for the next available departure at the terminal. If your train arrives after 17:20, take a taxi or ride-hail car straight to your hotel.

Wulingyuan Bus Station (武陵源汽车客运站) is convenient for hotels around Weiyang Road (未央路) and Guihua Road (桂花路). The national park's East Gate (武陵源东门 / 吴家峪票站) sits further east. Some local shuttles stop directly at 东门 or 标志门; choose that stop if your hotel is right beside the gate. The South Gate (森林公园门票站) serves a separate hotel area. Finish the ride at your hotel

Have your hotel's Chinese name and address ready on your phone before getting off the coach. If staying nearby, you can walk with light luggage. For an East Gate hotel, walk the street route or take a short taxi with suitcases. Local buses 1 and 2 also connect the bus station to East Gate for CNY 2 (≈ USD 0.30 ) per person.

Check the East Gate map point to locate the park entrance. Listings advertised as "near the national forest park" might sit near the South, West, or North gates instead, which require different approach roads. Return to Zhangjiajie West Station

City hotel to West Station

When ordering a car back to West Station, select 张家界西站 and choose the 进站口 (Departures / Station Entrance) drop-off point. Do not confuse it with downtown 张家界站.

To return by city bus:

• From the Tianmen cable car area, take Bus 17 toward 高铁枢纽站.
• From the old railway station area, take Bus 6 or Bus 17 at the 火车站 terminal toward 高铁枢纽站.

For Bus 6 toward West Station, the detour route passes through 古庸东路, 文昌阁, 大庸府城, 新峰市场, and 龙城街. Check the 高铁枢纽站 direction in the bus app to find the exact boarding stop.

Aim to reach the station entrance 45 to 60 minutes before departure to clear security and find your gate. Present the US passport used to book your train ticket at the manual check-in lane.

Wulingyuan hotel to West Station

To catch your departure train, go to 武陵源汽车客运站 and buy a coach ticket to 张家界西站. You can ask: 这班车到张家界西站吗？ (Does this bus go to Zhangjiajie West Station?). Do not board buses marked 张家界中心汽车站, as those go to the downtown city terminal instead of the high-speed rail hub.

Allow about 2.5 hours total from your Wulingyuan hotel to train departure when taking the coach. This covers getting to the bus station, departure waiting, road travel, and railway security checks. Aim to arrive at West Station about one hour before departure. For early-morning trains, book a direct car from your hotel instead.

For a 14:00 train, target arriving at West Station by 13:00. Leave a Wulingyuan town hotel around 11:30 by coach, or around 12:00 by direct car.

• Bus fare payment: Have exact cash for CNY 2 (≈ USD 0.30 ) per person ready, or scan a transport mini-program code in Alipay or WeChat Pay. Standard store payment QR codes are not accepted on city buses.
