Cold noodles: a tangy, filling first stop

凉面 uses springy wheat noodles tossed in a savoury, sour sauce with garlic, crushed peanuts, pickled greens, and tomato-based broth. You can choose extra toppings like sliced pig ears (猪耳朵).

Head to 猪脑壳凉面(南正街店) at 南正街212号, open from 09:00 to 21:30. Average spending for a visit is about CNY 20 (≈ USD 3.0 ) per person.

Find the South Zheng Street branch on the map.

Potato noodles: springy hot bowls

土豆粉 is the hot noodle bowl served at the same shop. These thick potato-starch noodles have a chewy, bouncy bite in hot broth. Other warm choices on the menu include 砂锅米粉 (clay-pot rice noodles) and 酸汤鱼片粉 (fish slice noodles in sour broth).

Taro desserts: cool down with sweet bowls

红豆芋圆冰 combines red beans and chewy taro balls over crushed ice. Order it at the South Zheng Street shop after spicy noodles, or pick 芒果芋圆 (mango taro balls) or 烧仙草 (grass jelly dessert).

Pickled radish: crunchy sour takeaway

For 醋萝卜, stop at 墉城十八子(北正街店). The counter features tubs of pickled radish peel, cucumber, kelp, dried konjac, and seasoned tofu skin. Radish peel gives the crispest bite, while dried konjac has a chewy, jerky-like texture.

Find the shop 20 metres west of 古庸路与北正街交叉口, by the tobacco-company shopfronts. It opens from 09:00 to 22:30. Average spending for a visit is about CNY 16 (≈ USD 2.4 ) per person. Ask for a small portion using 小份多少钱?

Sugar-coated rice cakes: warm and chewy

糖油粑粑 are glutinous rice patties fried in oil and brown sugar syrup. The crust is lightly crisp while the centre remains soft and stretchy. Look for fresh batches at the 南门口美食街 stalls, where a serving costs about CNY 5 to 10 (≈ USD 0.75–1.5 ). This is an easy choice if you want something sweet and completely chilli-free.

Rice tofu: cool savoury jelly

米豆腐 consists of silky, savoury rice-flour jelly cubes dressed in soy sauce, vinegar, mashed garlic, and chilli oil. Pick up a bowl along 南门口美食街 for about CNY 6 to 12 (≈ USD 0.90–1.8 ).

Walking route: downtown snack stroll

Allow 60 to 90 minutes between 18:00 and 20:00 for this walking route in Yongding District:

  1. Start at the 南门口美食街 archway near the intersection of 回龙路与南正街交叉口, across from Dayong Ancient Town. Grab a warm skewer of fried rice cakes or a small bowl of rice tofu.
  2. Follow 南正街 to 猪脑壳凉面(南正街店) at 南正街212号 for cold noodles or hot potato noodles, followed by a taro dessert.
  3. For a longer walk, continue towards 北正街 and 古庸路 to pick up a takeaway tub of pickled radish at 墉城十八子(北正街店).
  4. Show the final shop address to your taxi driver or use it as your pickup point when heading back to your hotel.

Set aside CNY 30 to 50 (≈ USD 4.5–7.5 ) per person as your snack allowance. Choose two or three foods. For a shorter walk, finish after the noodle shop.

Wulingyuan option: Xibu Street

If your hotel is in Wulingyuan near the forest park, visit 溪布街 along the Suoxi River instead of travelling into the city. The pedestrian street offers river views, snack stalls, grilled skewers, and local sweets on an easy evening walk.
