Zhangjiajie Airport to Hotels: Downtown and Wulingyuan

Hehua Airport (DYG) sits close to downtown Zhangjiajie and about 40 minutes from the national park gates in Wulingyuan. Choose a fast direct car to skip carrying heavy suitcases across town, or take the daytime public bus to keep travel costs low.

Choose your hotel area and ride

Choose a city hotel destination

For a hotel in downtown Yongding (永定), a taxi gives you the fastest transfer with bags. If you travel on a budget during the day, take bus 4 and finish with a short walk. The Tianmen city lower cableway station, 天门山索道下站, is the main landmark for hotels along Guanli Road and Dayong Road.

Always use your hotel's exact Chinese street address as the car destination. The downtown lower cableway station and Tianmen's highway mountain gate, 天门山山门, are two different places. Choose transport to Wulingyuan

Take a direct car with large bags, several travelers, or an evening landing. Budget about CNY 100–150 (≈ USD 15–22 ) per car, one way, for a taxi or ride-hail ride to Wulingyuan town. The drive takes 35 to 50 minutes once you leave the terminal. A direct ride saves changing vehicles with your bags.

Take the daytime bus connection when saving money is your top priority. Take Route 4 to Guanyin Bridge South, walk about 1.3 km (20 minutes) to Zhangjiajie Central Bus Station, then board the coach to Wulingyuan Bus Station. The city bus costs CNY 2 (≈ USD 0.30 ) and the coach CNY 13 (≈ USD 1.9 ) per person, totaling CNY 15 (≈ USD 2.2 ). Add the final hotel connection and allow about two hours from the terminal to your hotel.

For two or more people, compare total bus fares with a car. While each person pays for separate bus tickets, the direct car cost is shared among everyone in the vehicle.

From arrivals to your pickup

When you land at Hehua Airport, 张家界荷花国际机场 (DYG), pick up your luggage and exit the arrivals hall on 1F.

• Regular taxis: Follow the taxi signs to the official taxi queue directly outside the terminal.
• DiDi and ride-hail cars: Cross the two pedestrian zebra crossings to reach the dedicated ride-hail pickup zone indicated in your app.
• Public bus 4: Turn right after leaving the terminal and walk about five minutes to the bus stop. Look for the route sign for 4路 heading toward 高铁站 (High-Speed Rail Station).
• Free airport shuttle: This shuttle parks right outside 1F arrivals and follows a set downtown route.

Use the 机场航站楼 (Airport Terminal) stop; 空港新城 is the airport-side route terminus. Allow a few hundred meters of walking outside arrivals to reach the signed bus platform.

Taxi, DiDi or a booked car

Car to a city hotel

A taxi or ride-hail trip to the Tianmen city cableway area takes 10 to 15 minutes. Budget around CNY 10 to 20 (≈ USD 1.5–3.0 ) per car to the Tianmen city cableway area. Taxis use a meter: the base fare is CNY 6 (≈ USD 0.90 ) during the day and CNY 7 (≈ USD 1.0 ) at night for the first 1.6 km. DiDi displays the trip price in the app.

A direct car drops you off right at your lobby. If you stay in a small alley guesthouse, use the map pin or Chinese address provided by reception so the driver stops at the nearest open lane entrance.

If you travel with family or extra luggage, a booked airport transfer lets your group ride together.

Car or direct bus to Wulingyuan

After collecting your luggage, follow the official taxi signs outside the arrival hall. Show the driver your hotel's Chinese name and address. If you use a ride-hailing app, walk to the designated pickup point shown on your screen and check the license plate before getting in.

A booked airport transfer to Wulingyuan is convenient for evening landings or families traveling with multiple bags. Budget CNY 179–262 (≈ USD 27–39 ) per vehicle, one way. Send the flight number, arrival date and hotel address when arranging pickup.

Reserve a direct bus to the East Gate

With a compact bag, a direct scenic bus avoids the city transfer. Budget CNY 12–30 (≈ USD 1.8–4.5 ) per person and about 40 minutes on the road, or roughly one hour including waiting. Evening departures are less frequent, and some services leave when the vehicle fills. Small buses have limited luggage space, with bags beside the seats.

For an East Gate airport pickup with 城景巴士, book ahead through 湘悦行. Open 定制客运 (custom passenger transport) and look under 张家界至大峡谷 (Zhangjiajie to the Grand Canyon) for that day's departures. Choose an airport pickup serving 武陵源标志门, then enter your hotel as the drop-off if needed. Select a departure that leaves time to collect your bags.

For late-night arrivals, tell your hotel your expected arrival time and arrange reception access. The road journey starts after baggage collection and arrival formalities.

Bus 4: CNY 2 (≈ USD 0.30 ) and a final walk

Bus 4 runs from the airport through downtown Yongding to Zhangjiajie West Station. The fare is CNY 2 (≈ USD 0.30 ) per person paid into the front fare box.

To reach the Tianmen city cableway area, get off at 观音大桥南 (Guanyin Bridge South). Walk southwest for about 500 meters (roughly 7 to 10 minutes) to reach the lower cableway station. Add the final walk to your hotel.

The bus ride to the Tianmen city cableway area takes about 30 minutes. Allow roughly 40 to 45 minutes including the walks, plus waiting for the bus. Airport-side service runs 05:50 to 19:30. With a suitcase, a taxi saves both walks and the wait.

For hotels around the old shopping quarter, bus 4 continues past the bridge to 十字街 (Shizi Street) and 老市场口 (Old Market Entrance). If your hotel is near the central railway station or Central Bus Station, taking a taxi is easier with heavy suitcases. Central Bus Station is about 1 km from the city lower cableway station.

Free shuttle: choose it by its final stop

The free airport shuttle serves the Post Office Building (邮政大厦) and Zhangjiajie International Hotel (张家界国际大酒店). Show your arriving flight boarding pass or ticket and board outside 1F arrivals. It gathers arriving passengers before leaving, so the wait can be 30 to 60 minutes.

Take this shuttle if your accommodation sits close to either stop. Tell the driver your hotel name before boarding so they can guide you to the right stop. For hotels near the Tianmen cableway, bus 4 or a taxi offers a more direct route.

Change at Zhangjiajie Central Bus Station

Airport to the city coach station

At the airport bus stop, take Route 4 (4路) toward 高铁站 (High-Speed Rail Station) and get off at 观音大桥南 (Guanyin Bridge South). The fare is CNY 2 (≈ USD 0.30 ) per person. Walk about 1.3 km, roughly 20 minutes, to 张家界中心汽车站 (Zhangjiajie Central Bus Station), beside the downtown railway station 张家界站.

If you have bulky luggage, take a taxi from the airport to the coach station instead. This short ride costs around CNY 20–30 (≈ USD 3.0–4.5 ) per car.

Coach to Wulingyuan

Inside the central station, buy a ticket to 武陵源汽车站 (Wulingyuan Bus Station). The fare reference is CNY 13 (≈ USD 1.9 ) per person, and the ride takes about 50 to 60 minutes. Go to the boarding point assigned by the station.

Before boarding, you can show the driver this question: 这班车到武陵源汽车站吗？ (Does this bus go to Wulingyuan Bus Station?). Buses also run to other park gates, so check that your bus goes to Wulingyuan town.

The city-scenery bus network runs during the day and early evening. If your flight lands in the evening, take a direct taxi or ride-hail car instead. At the airport information desk, ask which departure is still available that day if you plan to use a public service.

Finish at the right hotel entrance

Wulingyuan Bus Station and the forest park East Gate are two different spots. From the bus station, use your hotel entrance pin for a walk, local taxi or hotel pickup. With large bags, choose the ride to reception.

Return to Hehua Airport

City hotel to the airport

When heading back, set your taxi destination to 张家界荷花国际机场 and get dropped off at the T2 departures hall. From the Tianmen cableway area, allow 15 to 20 minutes driving, plus pickup waiting and traffic time. Plan to reach the airport two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights for check-in and security.

If you take bus 4 back to the airport, board the bus marked 飞机场 or 空港新城. The first bus leaves Zhangjiajie West Station at 05:40 and the last at 19:20. These are departures from the starting terminal; buses reach the city stops later. For an early flight or a trip near the end of service, take a car. At the airport stop, follow the terminal signs to T2 departures.

Wulingyuan hotel to the airport

Book a ride from your hotel entrance to 张家界荷花国际机场 (Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport). The drive takes about one hour in normal traffic. For planning, aim to reach the airport two hours before a domestic flight or three hours before an international flight. Use your airline's stated airport arrival time when it gives one.

That means leaving your Wulingyuan hotel about three hours before a domestic departure or four hours before an international flight. For a 12:00 domestic flight, plan a 09:00 hotel pickup. Arrange your car the previous evening for an early departure.

To return by public transport during the day, take the coach from Wulingyuan Bus Station back to Zhangjiajie Central Bus Station. From there, take Route 4 toward 飞机场 (airport), or a taxi. Allow about two hours for the bus connections, plus your airport arrival allowance.

Practical tips

• Payment: Have exactly CNY 2 (≈ USD 0.30 ) cash ready for the bus fare box. Pay a taxi in cash or with Alipay or WeChat Pay, and pay DiDi in the app.
• Helpful bus phrase: Show the driver 请到观音大桥南提醒我下车 ("Please let me know when we arrive at Guanyin Bridge South").
• Destination address: Save your hotel's Chinese name, full address and entrance pin together on your phone. You can show drivers: 请送我到这家酒店。 (Please take me to this hotel).
• Baggage handling: Give the passenger and suitcase count when arranging a car. On the bus route, you carry your own bags on and off each vehicle.
• Flight time: Flights and pickups use China time, UTC+8. For a flight landing after midnight, give the local arrival date.
