Furong to Fenghuang: Train, Shuttle Stops and Luggage

Ride the direct high-speed train from Furongzhen to Fenghuang Gucheng in just 30 to 45 minutes. Allow about 2.5 hours total from your Furong guesthouse door to your Fenghuang hotel, including luggage pickup, station security, waiting and the final local ride.

Choose the direct train

For a smooth transfer with rolling bags, allow about 2.5 hours from one accommodation to the next. This budget covers picking up your luggage, the short ride to Furongzhen station, arriving 45 to 60 minutes before departure, the train trip, your Fenghuang town transfer and the final walk.

The two rail stations on this high-speed line are 芙蓉镇站 and 凤凰古城站, often written as Fenghuanggucheng on ticketing screens. Direct trains run between these stations throughout the day. Some services pause briefly at Jishou East along the route, but you simply stay in your seat.

Second-class tickets cost about 53元 (≈ USD 7.9 ) per person. The train ride takes only 30 to 45 minutes, making it the best option for independent travelers and couples.

A private transfer is a convenient alternative for larger families or groups with multiple heavy bags. The drive takes around 1.5 hours and delivers you between roadside meeting points, avoiding station security lines and train platform stairs. Ask your guesthouse host for a car quote.

Get from Furong's old town to the station

Ask your Furong guesthouse host to arrange a taxi or car the evening before departure, setting a specific pickup time and roadside meeting point.

Furongzhen station sits about 2.5 km (1.5 miles) from the historic town center. You can reach the station quickly by taxi or local shuttle:

• Taxi: Costs about 20元 (≈ USD 3.0 ) per car and takes roughly 15 minutes.
• Scenic area shuttle: The local tourist bus connects the town and the station. Make sure you board the bus heading to 芙蓉镇高铁站 (the high-speed rail station) rather than 芙蓉镇汽车站 (the regular town bus station).

Because many historic guesthouses sit on steep pedestrian flagstone paths and staircases, cars stop at a road meeting point outside the pedestrian zone. Ask your host for the nearest vehicle pickup point before wheeling your cases outside. Plan to reach the station entrance 45 to 60 minutes before departure to clear security comfortably.

Book and board your train

Book with your US passport details through the English 12306 service, or reserve the Furongzhen to Fenghuang Gucheng train on Trip.com. Bring the same physical passport for station checks and boarding.

1. Search for the route Furongzhen → Fenghuanggucheng and pick your departure time.
2. Enter each passenger's full name and passport number exactly as shown on the passport information page (for example, FIRST MIDDLE LAST).
3. Keep your booking confirmation handy with the train number, carriage and seat number.
4. At Furongzhen station, walk to the entrance marked 进站口 (Station Entrance) and present your physical passport at the gate.
5. Check the electronic departure screens for your boarding gate, marked 检票口. Use the staffed lane (人工通道) where staff scan your passport.
6. Walk down to the platform, board your carriage and place large suitcases on the luggage racks at the end of the car.

Choose your Fenghuang town transfer

Fenghuang Gucheng railway station is located about 10 km (6 miles) from the ancient town. After walking through the exit gates, follow the signs to the high-speed rail shuttle bus terminal. The bus ride takes about 20 minutes.

Shuttle bus tickets cost 7元 (≈ USD 1.0 ) per person per ride. Line 2 also passes the tourist transport hub and coach terminal. Check with your Fenghuang hotel host in advance to see which visitor center drop-off is closer to their alley.

A taxi from the station taxi rank to the ancient town costs about 25元 (≈ USD 3.7 ) per car. Taxis drop off at the closest roadside access point, where you can walk into the pedestrian core or meet your host.

The Fenghuang Sightseeing Maglev is another option costing 28元 (≈ USD 4.2 ) per person for a single ride. It stops at 揽胜站 (Lansheng Station), where an outdoor path and scenic elevator lead down toward the ancient town. For the most direct drop-off near your guesthouse, the road shuttle or a taxi is usually easier with luggage.

Move your bags forward

For an overnight change of base, leave your bags at your Furong guesthouse while sightseeing in the morning, collect them, and take an afternoon train to Fenghuang. Check into your Fenghuang room before exploring the riverside paths at night. This keeps all luggage handling along the direct route you are already traveling.

If you visit Furong as a day stop between two train rides, pick a luggage storage point right by the station or main town entrance. Carrying large suitcases down to Furong's waterfall boardwalks means navigating hundreds of wet outdoor steps.

Travel back from Fenghuang to Furong

To make the return trip, search the train route Fenghuanggucheng → Furongzhen. Take the return shuttle bus to the railway station from either Qifeng Square or Nanhuali Visitor Center, or hail a taxi from the street.

If you have an early morning train, arrange a taxi pickup with your guesthouse host the evening before. Arrive at the station 45 to 60 minutes before departure. When you arrive back at Furongzhen, head through 出站口 (Exit) to find local taxis and shuttles.
